Mausoleo di Augusto

Finally able to share some screenshots and a video from this VR experience for Oculus, both single and multiplayer, made in Unity.
But first, a bit of a backstory.
By the end of 2019 we started working on this project together with TIM Group(Italian telecommunications services provider ) who was funding the restoration of the monument in Rome.
The idea was to design both a VR and an AR experience to show people the history of the Mausoleum through time, from the Roman Age, when it was built as a place where to bury the emperor Augustus, to current days.
I was responsible for the modeling and texturing of the original monument that was built around 1st century BC, and the obelisk that worked as a sundial and that we then turned into a working sundial into the AR app, something I am incredibly proud of.
Modeling and texturing were based on references and blueprints that I was given by the archeologists and the team who had been studying the building and was then supervising our project.
There are two different versions of the model, one for VR and the other that went through a further optimization - in terms of polycounts, number of materials and textures resolution - for the AR app, where it was supposed to be shown as an animated scale model, so it didn't require all the details and textures resolution of the life size VR one.
Unfortunately, when covid hit at the beginning of 2020 the company fired me because I was hired as a freelancer so I didn't have the chance to collect more screenshots and videos than those I foud on the internet and that I have shared here, but I am relieved that the yotube video offers closeups of my work since it's one of the projects that I've enjoyed the most working on.
